Regal Movie Theater Times! The a very important factor I love about moving into Los Angeles will be the number of revival houses and single screen movie theaters you can still go to. I'm not speaking about your multiplexes which can be playing the latest Hollywood blockbusters, I'm discussing those historic movie theaters that have fun playing the classic movies we loved watching if we were maturing. Many of these films we first watched on television or rented them on VHS from our local video stores (back when they existed), but we never got a chance to see them about the big screen where they belonged. But due to places like New Beverly Cinema, the Egyptian Theatre and Grauman's Chinese among other movie theatres, we finally get to discover their whereabouts the way they were intended as seen.
Now I know a lot of people who currently would prefer to curl up around the sofa and watch movies at home, however, these cult movies should be seen about the big screen if you are ever in Los Angeles.
"The Rocky Horror Picture Show"
This musical comedy horror cult classic which stars Susan Sarandon and Barry Bostwick along with the great Tim Curry being a "sweet transvestite from Transsexual, Transylvania" could be the longest-running midnight movie ever. Thirty-eight years after "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" arrived on the scene, it is playing in limited release and midnight screenings keep happening all over America. However, have not lived til you have seen this movie on the Nuart Theatre in Santa Monica where audience members can wear their cartoon characters and talk back to the screen in ways they couldn't if it were some other movie. Fans at the Nuart will also get treated to your live performance from Sins O' The Flesh, a gaggle of actors that perform along with the movie every Saturday night. You can always count on having a most fantastic time whenever you watch this movie with the Nuart!
"The Room"
The 2003 romantic drama that has been written, produced, directed and stars Tommy "YOU'RE TEARING ME APART LISA!" Wiseau has become called one of several worst films available, as well as the fans still can't get enough of it. "The Room" is constantly sell out midnight screenings on the Regent Theatre in Los Angeles, and you'll be able to always trust Wiseau being there to perform a Q&A session using the fans. The movie was a box office disappointment, however it has since garnered one of many biggest and strangest cult followings associated with a movie ever made thanks to the main character's unapologetically laid back attitude. Screenings of "The Big Lebowski" can be found at various Los Angeles movie theatres, though the real treat for fans happens when the Lebowski Fest comes to town. Every Los Angeles screening I have seen of John Carpenter's martial arts comedy has always ended in a sold-out audience. Thanks to home video, "Big Trouble in Little China" gained a tremendous cult following, and audiences love it today in ways that you wished they did back when it first came out. It's this type of kick to look at this film with the audience since they are in hysterics over Kurt Russell delivering his dialogue by having an unapologetic John Wayne swagger, and now we have long since accepted the fact that his character of Jack Burton is a bit more of a blowhard than a hero. It doesn't matter how many times you have observed this movie; "Big Trouble in Little China" remains a blast to find out through.
